Marlene Erven
Marlene is passionate about the missions of the organizations she serves. A proactive manager, team builder and tactical planner, she has a strong background in operations, membership and program development, communications, fundraising, and financial management. She has expertise in serving as interim CEO or Executive Director, working close with Boards to solve crisis issues with their organizations.
Serving in leadership or consulting positions with charitable organizations both nationally and in South Florida, Marlene has a proven track record in all areas of not-for-profit management. She is the former Executive Director of Cedars Medical Center Foundation and headed The Erven Group, a Miami-based consulting firm, before she was recruited to work with the Alpha-1 Foundation. She was privileged to have 14-year career with the Alpha-1 Community where she helped to build the Alpha-1 Foundation and its sister organization the Alpha-1 Association into one of the premier rare disease organizations in the country until the two organizations merged in 2014.
She served a four-year term as President of the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove where she reinvigorated the Club. She has instituted novel approaches to financial management, business operations as well as fundraising. Her work with the Club has laid the groundwork for its continuity and growth into the future.
As interim executive director of Switchboard Miami, she prevented a forced shut-down of this $5 million non-profit organization that would leave more than 120,000 individuals served each year without resources and 90 staff members unemployed. Working in conjunction with its Board and Roxanne Ortiz, CPA they successfully identified Jewish Community Services) to transfer Switchboard's funding, employees, and programs including, the 211 Call Center, Family Counseling Services and four highly specialized government funded grant programs for at-risk youth. They worked with four teams of pro bono attorneys from prestigious Miami law firms to deal with issues related to federal funding and the subsequent closure of the Switchboard organization.
Marlene serves as development consultant to Care Resource, a $92 million community health center with locations throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties providing health care to 25,000+ people each year. She helped to establish their development infrastructure and Capital Fund to support their building renovations, expansions and grand openings in Midtown Miami, Broward County and Little Havana working in conjunction with senior management staff and board.
Marlene currently serves as Interim Executive Director of Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services. where she if facilitating its merger with Lutheran Services Florida to continue Miami Bridge's 48 year legacy of serving at-risk youth in Miami Dade County.
Marlene works with Boards of Directors and senior not-for-profit managers to develop strategies and promote organizational growth with a high commitment to success. She specializes in analyzing situations and developing and implementing effective solutions. She coaches and mentors staff, effectively work with Boards and volunteers and cultivates excellent relations with members and donors. She helps to revitalize organizations and staff to meet a wide variety of challenges. In her roles as interim CEO for nonprofit organizations she brings stability and helps to identify stronger partners and facilitates mergers and acquisitions as needed.
